Caricature Carving with Terry Moss

Pilgrim or Native American

Terry Moss is a skilled caricature carver and president of the Capitol Woodcarvers Club in Salem. In this weekend workshop you will carve one of two new caricatures in his seasonal series - PILGRIM or NATIVE AMERICAN.

The class is intended for carvers with foundational knife handling skills.  Newcomers to caricature carving are welcomed and encouraged.  The figure is carved from 2x2x12 Basswood which will be roughed out ahead of time so students can get to the details faster and and have a hope of getting done in the weekend. There is a good chance you will finish one and get started on the other.

MINIMUM - Five students, otherwise it will be rescheduled or cancelled.

COST - $150, includes one blank; extra blanks are $10 (payable to the instructor)

PREREQUISITES - Advanced beginner or intermediate level carver or above with experience using a carving knife. Carvers that have never tried a caricature are welcomed.

FOOD - Bring your own lunch; coffee/tea/water/sodas/snacks provided.

TOOLS - You will need to provide your own tools, carving glove, and thumb guard.  Tools will be a detail knife, small V tool, and small gouges.  Tools from our Tool Library will be available during the class.

LIABILITY WAIVER - Before the class you will need to sign a typical form to waive liability for the host facility and the Oregon Carvers Guild.

CARVING SAFETY - You must read the relevant parts of our carving safety manual and be prepared to follow those practices.

COVID - What, me worry?  Yes, we will, and you should plan on standard protocols of staying home if sick, living with some who is, recently exposed, etc.

CANCELLATION - Full refund if cancelled within 14 days of the class start. Half refund if cancelled 7 to 14 days of the start, and no refund if cancelled within 7 days, UNLESS we can find a substitute attendee.
