WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

Sharpening is intimidating to new carvers.  This class gets you started with stropping correctly and gives you an essential foundation.  Sharpening is a career-long journey; this is your chance to start learning the correct techniques.  Future classes will cover sharpening with stones and with power grinders.

HANDOUT  - A handout is downloadable by clicking here, and please at least skim it before the class.  Eventually a supporting video will be available.

COVID - by necessity this is an in-person class.  To be safe we limit the class to three students, require vaccination and proof when you arrive, expect safe distancing when possible, suggest masks but they are optional, and expect no one to attend if they are ill or exposed to anyone with Covid.  We will be in a large shop with good outdoor ventilation but dress for a 55 degree environment.

COST - free

WORKSHOP LEADER - Roger Crooks

TOOLS - Students should bring their own tools, strop and honing compound if they have them, but practice tools and loaner strops are available, and materials to make your own strop can be purchased at a fair price.
