January 12, 7:00 - 9:00
DESCRIPTION
Leroy Setziol produced over 1,000 wood carvings before he died in 2005. His work is memorialized with two major art museum exhibitions and a 35 minute documentary. By the time he got the commission to produce the carvings at Salishan Lodge in 1965 he was reasonably well known but still a struggling artist. He usually worked on a large scale with noted architects. His works can still be seen at Skamania Lodge, the entry to the chapel at the University of Portland and many other places. A list with addresses will be available after the presentation.
This program will review his works, his life and a few of the works of his adult daughter, Monica Setziol-Phillips.
The program will consist mainly of video clips and photographs with some commentary. We had hoped that his daughter Monica could join us but it didn't work out.
