Introduction to Carving (Incised)

Registration deadline is one week before

One 2  1/2 hour session - on Zoom

.

Burghead Bull design is by Chris Pye

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

The incised carving style typically creates line drawings etched into the surface of wood (or linoleum, gourds, soap, etc.) and can be done safely with one tool.

This workshop is for those who have never carved but want to try.  It is hands-on but experienced over Zoom.  You will be provided with free Basswood, a loaner V-tool and veiner and several patterns to choose from.  You will begin with the Welcome Sign first then create another of your choosing.

The example above was created by famous author and master carver Chris Pye and published in Woodcarving Illustrated (click here).  Students can choose what they carve from a variety of line drawings.

Optionally you can provide your own patterns, wood and tool, but please contact the instructor to discuss sharpening.

DATES/TIMES - One Saturday, 1:30-4:00 PM, dates as noted

COST - free tuition, free wood, free loaner tools

The main challenges are getting you the wood and tools and you returning the tools.  If necessary you will have to pay for any postage.

WORKSHOP LEADER is Larry Wade, (503-312-7745, lpwade@gmail.com)
