Interest List - Relief Carving Workshop
This is NOT a class, just a place for you to express your interest in taking one in the future.
. . . . .
OREGON CARVERS GUILD - is the sponsoring organization but the eventual workshop is open to members of any carving club.
This is an "interest list" for now, intended to see who is interested in taking the workshop . There is no obligation or cost to put your name on this list, except to dialog and explore further.
Mack Sutter taught carving for 40 years using a series of 12 relief patterns that become progressively more difficult. The eventual workshop will focus on carving the first panel in this series and a second one of the student's choice depending on their skills and interests. Ideally and over time, each of the 12 designs will be attempted by some student so we can build up a knowledge base on how future classes can evolve.
DATES/TIMES - tentatively scheduled for five consecutive Mondays starting Nov 23rd thru Dec 21st, at 10:00 AM (subject to change)
COST - free except for materials and possibly postage
Tuition is waived for this first-ever workshop because we are testing concepts and processes. Two Basswood blanks are expected to cost $15. Loaner tool sets of six tools are provided to be picked up at the Guild Library or Instructor's home near Beaverton. Cost to mail to you is $20, but you mail the tools back.
WORKSHOP LEADER is Larry Wade. This is different than a typical "class" where you will be spoon-fed but rather a collaborative effort to explore how to carve each project. Larry has a decent carving background but is not an expert.ONLINE ONLY
One goal of the eventual workshop is to test the feasibility of teaching and learning online. Each weekly session will nominally be 90 minutes with most of the carving being done privately in-between, with the possibility of private online one-on-one coaching sessions.
ZOOM - students must be comfortable using Zoom

All students are expected to use the tools provided in order to verify that the designs can be done with just them.
